Great primer!!

Before getting this title I had downloaded a couple of scheduling software to start planning a short film but soon discovered that I had no clue how to get started and transform the written words in the script to a detailed plan of action for the cast and crew to follow.

Although this book is a little old - the second edition was published in 1991- the principals for film scheduling it contains are invaluable for anyone involved in planning a film or video production. It guides you through the logical process of transforming any script into the foundation for a precise film schedule. Brief and concise explanations about color-coding your script, transferring these tags to breakdown sheets and then working with the strip board to fine tune your schedule. It uses Francis Ford Coppola's Conversation as a sample script, and it takes up a large chunk of the book. This helps illustrate a very complex film and what was the mindset for breaking it down into shooting days in the most adverse conditions, but you can always use your own. It also includes a chapter on computer scheduling but most of the software presented are outdated; the most important thing you can learn from this chapter is that you need to understand the fundamentals, key parameters and how the process is done manually before sitting in front of a computer and this book does just that.

I must also point out that you can breeze through the pages as I was able to finish this book in just two days (over the weekend) leaving me enough time to practice the basics and go to the computer to prepare a reasonable film schedule.

Nuts and Bolts

When it comes down to it, "Film Scheduling" does not steer you wrong, giving the reader the essential foundation blocks to properly break down and schedule a particular film.

My problem with the book however is that it is awfully dated. Being published in the 80s and revised in the 90s, it treats electronic tools (ie a computer) like it is some sort of "coming soon" feature.

All and all a decent book, that if anything is needing a new edition.

The definitive work...

This book is the definitive work in film scheduling. It clearly explains the process of breaking down a screenplay in order to produce a shooting schedule, daily call sheets, and much of the rest of the paperwork that goes hand-in-hand with a smooth feature film.

Planning is everything on cost-effective filmmaking. This book is an educational tool that breaks everything down into small logical steps. It explains how to carry out those steps, and the logic and reasoning behind doing it this way. In the end, you arrive at a point where you have ample paperwork that explains in which order you shall shoot your film, on which days, in which locations, and with everyone knowing who and what needs to be where, when!

It needs to be said that at time, the breakdown process can be laborious and highly repetitive. This method goes a long way to minimizing the repetition, and making you a more effective filmmaker.

When you reach the end of this book and have scheduled your film, the companion book "Film Budgeting" will show you with equal clarity how to produce a meaningful budget from the results of this book.

I highly recommend both books, particularly if you are working on larger productions where you have enough money to really mess up, but not enough money to afford to mess up.

Every chapter of this book leaves you burning inside and on your knees in prayer. Ablaze for God is an appropriate title. I will be reading it many times over. Wesley Duewel certainly knows how to fan the flame. The spirituality that he presents here is what we need desperately, and what I want to embody more than anything. If I could only have the Bible and one other book the rest of my life, it would be this book. READ IT!!!

MUST READ - IF YOU ARE A LEADER - YOU MUST BE A READER

ABLAZE FOR GOD by Wesley L. Duewel is excellent! I read one chapter every morning to start my morning devotion (before I begin my personal prayer and study in the Lord). This is very difficult because I want to continue reading. ABLAZE FOR GOD is insightful and God's mighty hand is on this brother. Each chapter (short powerful preaching) is filled with the character of the Holy Ghost. There is no way anyone can read this and not be changed. There is no way in heaven or earth that after reading even one page of ABLAZE FOR GOD, that you do not jump up and down and cry out to Jehovah hallelujah. I love Jesus, I love God, I love the Holy Ghost. You will be changed! You will be inspired. Brother Duewel uses very few words to convey what God has put in his soul. Not one word is wasted. You will high light every word, every verb, and every noun. You will read, and re-read with renewed thirst for the God of my salvation. You will run to you children screaming about what you read last. You will quote chapter and verse and those who know you will know that you spent time with the Almighty. The chapters on "YOUR PRAYER" pages 211 to 247 will convict, encourage, and inspire your prayer time. HE [The Holy Ghost] will increase, as you decrease. If you have seen any of my other reviews you will realize that Wesley L. Duewel is one of my favorite authors on the subject of the ministry of the Holy Spirit within the life of the Christian. Of all of Duewel's books, I like this one the best. Of all of the sections of this book, I like his discussion of power the best. His sketches of the ministry of the Holy Spirit within the lives of John Wesley, Charles G. Finney, and Duncan Campbell have inspired me in my faith journey as few other books ever have.

About the Author
Ted Hughes (1930-1998) was born in Yorkshire. His first book, The Hawk in the Rain, was published in 1957 by Faber and Faber and was followed by many volumes of poetry and prose for adults and children, including The Iron Man (1968). He received the Whitbread Book of the Year for both Tales from Ovid (1997) and Birthday Letters (1998). He was Poet Laureate from 1984, and in 1998 he was appointed to the Order of Merit.

A favorite book, but not as advertised

Ted Hughes' "Crow" may well be my favorite 20th century book of poetry, and I purchased this copy to present as a Christmas present. Leonard Baskin's illustrations are stunning, and I was happy to find a copy through Amazon via a third party. However, despite the book being advertised on-line with Baskin's cover, the copy I was sent had a purely black cover, and Baskin's illustrations were not included in the edition I was sent (hence my 3-star ranking, instead of the 5 stars the book deserves). Because it was a Christmas gift, I did not have the time to return the item and request the edition I believed I had ordered.

All that being said, and with all due respect to his "Birthday Letters," Britain's former poet-laureate created his masterpiece with "Crow," introducing a volatile new character into the Garden of Eden who upsets and upends the order of things as we know it. Ted Hughes was a shaman of a poet, connected to darker energies and a mojo that by turns is sinister and hilarious. Not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for fundamentalists--Rick Santorum, beware! Infinitely more entertaining than King James, sexual, violent and irreverent, "Crow" is both a satire of one of the seed-myths of Middle Eastern culture (i.e., Genesis) and a gutsy interpolation into that myth of a "trickster" energy more akin to Coyote of the American Southwest than to anything biblical.

About the Author
Gareth Russell was a student at Down High Grammar School in Northern Ireland before he went on to study Modern History at Saint Peter’s College in the University of Oxford. He is the author of several plays and his first novel, Popular, first published in 2011 as been an amazing success. Popular has also been adapted for the stage twice. Gareth divides his time between Belfast, London and vacations in Connecticut. His accent is best described as polymorphous, shifting with the greatest of ease from Northern Irish to English to American. This pleases him greatly. His first ever word was ‘shoe’ and if he had to host a dinner party with one person from history, it would be Anne Boleyn.

Back and bettter then ever! :~}

As much as I enjoyed the first book "Popular" by Gareth Russell the second one was EVEN MORE BETTER. This time Gareth lets you dive into a new characters position "Cameran Matthews". A dreamy almost 6 foot tall hotshot. A sizzlin' hot summer and new fresh year is about to begin and Cameran is guarding his own life to keep himself safe with a handful of lies and a one BIG life changing secret. But who is behind the rumors? It it "Coral Roberts" the anti-social queen bee or even his best female friend snooty and beautiful "Meredith Harper". I highly enjoyed this book and discovered more trills. I really hope Gareth countinues his series because it blew my mind and took me deeper into his alluring cave!

I am lecturing a course in Transportation Economics in Istanbul University and this is the primary book that I follow. I highly recommend this book. The book is wonderfully proportioned and practically detailed in many aspects of project evaluation. It is a rate case of success in tackling an issue with such extent and depth.

Maryann Jordan you have written another immaculate story, that will render your readers speechless. Gabe story is about love, loss, trust, survival, friendship, brotherhood and community. The main characters as well as the secondary characters will become family and will take residence in your heart. You will be thrilled to hear about the shenanigans these characters get into. Gabe and Jennifer's connection was undeniable but she made him earned her trust, and affection while protecting her heart and her little brother. Gabe knew he found his home and his family when Jennifer and Ross invaded his heart. He found the missing piece and vowed from that moment on, that he will love and protect both Ross and Jennifer no matter the consequences. Jennifer is one of the sweetest character's you will meet. She is kind, independent and has a pure heart of gold. Gabe is divine; he will take your breath away, especially with his compassionate and protective demeanor maintaining his dominant personality. Gabe's story is sweet and endearing, it shows no matter your situation, love will find you and lead you to your safe haven. Open up your heart and take a chance, if you don't the most precious gift in life could pass you by. Luckily for Gabe he needed a breath of fresh air at the right time. I saw Susan Stoker's release day wishes for this author on Facebook today and, since she is one of my favorite authors, I figured if she thought it was good, I should try it. I was not disappointed at all. I loved this book! There is heart, compassion, love, heat, sexy military men, suspense, everything you could want, all wrapped up in one book! Hope next book comes out soon!

This will tear at your heart strings!

Things one of those books that will not only knock your socks off, but also pretty much draw out most emotions you can name off the top of your head.
Yeas there are some super hot sex scenes but there are moments that will bring you to tears. You will feel fear for the characters and see how true love for someone can bring a grown man to his knees.
Gabe has seen both the best and worst humanity has to offer. He was part of the special forces and now works for and with his best friends and twin brother for Alvarez Security. He has been to war torn countries and there is nothing he hasn't seen. Until he meets Jennifer. She is pure goodness and spends her whole life helping those in need. She will bend over backwards to make sure those she is looking out for get everything they need.
Jennifer is guardian to her small brother as their parents passed away. She will do anything for him and makes sure he is her 1st priority. When she meets Gabe, he is everything she would want in a partner and when she sees how he quickly takes to her brother and vice versa, the deal is sealed.
Gabe and Jennifer are a match made in heaven. They know it and so does everyone else.
There is a huge threat to Jennifer's life and Gabe is about to learn just how far he will go to keep Jennifer and her young brother safe. They are his family and he would gladly give his life for theirs.
This will tear at your heart strings and you will most likely need tissues. I was actually still crying right at the very end!
Settle in with your wine and box of tissues, you won't want to put this one down until you get right to the end!
