I thought the book was written clearly without starry eyed embelishment. The story line starts with childhood and early school experiences which the author used to explain some of the reasons T. S. is driven. Without the cooperative parents and that drive we probably would never have heard of Taylor Swift. The book increased my esteem for the achievements of this young lady. I would recommend it to anyone interested in country music and/or this musician.

I really enjoyed reading this sampler of the Taylor Swift "The Whole Story" book. I also would like to state that I was very pleased with the length of the sampler. It was much longer than I expected and contained multiple chapters of the book. I found this sampler to be very enjoyable as it provided an inside look to Taylor's life growing up and leading up to her music career. I think most take it for granted that she had it made growing up and this book puts all those assumptions to rest. Yes, her parents were well off, but it didn't change the fact that she had to make her own way in the music business and also deal with peer pressure.

Great read and I look forward to completing the book soon!

Throughout the book, the text, references, and website addresses and have been updated to reflect important developments since the publication the first edition. Recent research findings on the epidemiology, aetiology, course, outcome, assessment and treatment of all psychological problems considered in this volume have been incorporated into the text. Account has been taken of changes in the diagnosis and classification of psychological problems reflected in the DSM-5. Chapters on ADHD in adults, emotion focused therapy, radically open dialectical behaviour therapy, and schema therapy have been added.

The book is divided into 6 sections:

Section 1 covers conceptual frameworks for practice (lifespan development; classification and epidemiology; CBT, psychodynamic, emotion focused, systemic and bio-medical models; and general assessment procedures)

Section 2 deals with mood problems (depression, bipolar disorder, suicide risk, and anger management)

Section 3 focuses on anxiety problems (social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and depersonalization disorder)

Section 4 deals with psychological problems linked to physical health (health anxiety, somatization, chronic pain, adjustment to cancer, and eating disorders)

Section 5 focuses on other significant psychological problems that come to the attention of clinical psychologist in adult mental health services (ADHD in adults, alcohol and other drug problems, psychosis, and psychological problems in older adults)

Section 6 contains chapters on therapeutic approaches to psychological distress related to complex childhood trauma (dialectical behaviour therapy for borderline personality disorder, racially open dialectical behaviour for over-controlled presentations, and schema therapy).

Each of the chapters on clinical problems explains how to assess and treat the condition in an evidence-based way with reference to case material. Interventions from cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, interpersonal/systemic and biomedical approaches are described, where there is evidence that they are effective for the problem in question. Skill building exercises and further reading for psychologists and patients are included at the end of each chapter.

This book is one of a set of three volumes which cover the lion’s share of the curriculum for clinical psychologists in training in the UK and Ireland. The other two volumes are the Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, Third Edition (by Alan Carr) and the Handbook of Intellectual Disability and Clinical Psychology Practice, Second Edition edited by Alan Carr, Christine Linehan, Gary O’Reilly, Patricia Noonan Walsh, & John McEvoy).

About the Author

Alan Carr, PhD, is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology at University College Dublin, and a consultant clinical psychologist at the Clanwilliam Institute in Dublin. He has conducted clinical practice in the UK, Canada and Ireland. He has produced over 20 volumes and 350 papers and presentations in the areas of clinical psychology, family therapy and positive psychology. His more popular recent books include The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology and The Handbook of Intellectual Disability and Clinical Psychology Practice (co-edited with Christine Linehan, Gary O’Reilly, Patricia Noonan Walsh and John McEvoy), and Clinical Psychology: An Introduction.

Muireann McNulty, PhD, is a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at University College Dublin. She developed the adult clinical psychology curriculum for the clinical psychology training programme at University College Dublin and co-ordinates teaching in that area. 48 pages of awesome

yes, this sketchbook is 48 pages full of the awesome art of Sam Kieth . It's important to notice that this is indeed a sketchbook, full of well: sketches, scribbles, and quite a few messy paintings (no Maxx, no Batman, no finished illustration...it's as plain and simple as its name: it's a sketchbook). BUT, all of that is cool. They all show the impressive style of the talented Mr. Sam Kieth :)

This is what Sam Kieth himself writes in the introduction to this sketchbook: "I don't know about you, but what I pick up a sketchbook for ARE the mistakes - the whiteout, scribbles, "bad" art, Sharpie pens bleeding through from art on the other side of pages. It's a peek behind the curtain, isn't it? I'll throw in a few current paintings, too; abstracts, nothing too scarry. Indulge me, OK?"

I really like this book, and I'm looking forward to the second sketchbook (Sam Kieth Sketchbook #2), and for what he also says in the introduction, we should also be expecting a full "art of Sam Kieth" in the future: "Look, it's either incredibly ballsy or incredibly stupid to come out with a series of 48-pages sketchbooks BEFORE the big art book, right? So why a 48-pager first? Because these sketchbooks keep stacking up. For an idea, take a peek at the photo of the pile of sketchbooks on my blog." (hey, I didn't know he has a blog...I'll go look for it right now).

What else is there to say? He's amazing. My one thing is that this has seriously awesome art, bu you will find a lot of it out there on the net. It also doesn't give any ne insight into Kieth as an Artist or Person, just shows off more his amazing work, down to the lines. When I feel a little out of gas, drawing-wise, I pick this up and peruse to get the juices going, and it always works.

Sam Kieth Sketchbook # 1

I have seen this guy's art before, and while it is out of the mainstream, he always surprises me. I am a huge fan of The Maxx comic book series in the 90s. I also loved, and reread several times his book, My Inner Bimbo. This is the first time I have just looked at the art of one person for the pure joy of looking at art. While I'm not an art critic, actually I don't know anything intellectually about art. What I do know, is what I like. This man, Sam Keith, his art, hit's me in my gut. Maybe it would sound better if I said, his art touches my heart. Which ever way you want to hear it, is fine with me.

This guy affects me . . . when I look at his work. He is able to take me on highs and lows with just a pencil or paint brush. It doesn't seem fair for one person to have such talent, but I suppose that's why I enjoyed this book so much.

Great job, Mr. Keith, Great job!

Practical Vascular Technology by Nathalie Garbani - a book review

I absolutely loved this book. I read it cover to cover in one weekend and use it as a reference in almost every type of vascular lab diagnostic study - whether it is dialysis access, renal allograft function study, TCD, extracranial carotid and vertebral disease, venous diseases, mesenteric vessel evaluation and so on and so on. I recommend this one to every doc and vascular technician.
