Nila Iyer grew up amidst the verdant serenity of Kerala's landscape at her ancestral home. Absolutely ridiculous but terribly fun book

This is the final (?) book in the "Kama Kahani" line from Random House, India. The other four books were sometimes silly, but this one beats its predecessors hands down in the ridiculous stakes. That said, I loved it anyway. "The Thief of Poompuhar" is a fun, anachronistic, and over the top novel with women warriors (historically correct, by the way), evil villains, a majestic hero in disguise that all behave just like modern people would even though the book is a historical.

Not comprehensive

This book is not as comprehensive as other reviewers claim. There is a lot of information about the feasts which is not in this book, because it is mostly about how we can celebrate the feasts today, and what meaning we can get out of it for our New Testament relationship with God. What there is very little of is prophetic teaching concerning the Fall Feasts, which Messiah will fulfill when he returns. It is not in this book. Messiah fulfilled the Spring feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, so also he will fulfill the Fall Feasts; you will need to look elsewhere for that info.

Opening the Hidden Treasures of the Feasts of Israel

Jill Shannon opens the mysteries and hidden treasure of the biblical feast of Israel in "A Prophetic Calendar." The book is intended to help restore to the Gentile church a deeper understanding of the foundations for the covenants given to Israel.

The book provides significant revelation into the seven festivals of Israel's annual calendar, all of which foreshadow the life and ministry of Jesus the Messiah. These feasts include: Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost (the Feast of Weeks), The Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), The Day of Atonement (Yum Kippur), and The Tabernacles. Each of these festivals is described in detail.

At the top of the list another celebration is listed: The Sabbath (Shabbat) is set apart to be observed each week throughout the year as a time of prayer, reflection and rest. Shannon also talks about the feasts of deliverance, Hanukah and Purim. Each of these provides the reader with information, enlightenment and encouragement. I found Purim (Esther's Feast) particularly interesting and filled with insight. I also appreciated the practical Passover Resources (Haggadah) provided in the appendix.

Jill's writing is a creative work, written in layman's language, easily understood, Holy Spirit inspired, and anointed. Her writing is compassionate introducing God's prophetic plan for restoration and renewal providing a blessing for Jew and Gentile.

The book links Old and New Testaments in a way that helps the reader to better understand God's purpose for the feasts and ministry of Jesus. Since Jill Shannon grew up in a Jewish home she is able to give first hand information about Biblical celebrations, Jewish history and traditions. Anyone desiring to learn more about the Lord Jesus and His biblical feasts will be blessed by this book.

An achievement

Those whose understanding of Bernini boils down to the usual pap about "bold, expressive" works "in their own right" or "creative fervor" (to quote the signage for the exhibition that this catalog accompanies) need not look beyond the pictures. This book is rigorous and smart and scholarly, and it treats Bernini's early drawings and sculptural drafts for what they are: thoroughgoing exercises, careful preparations for public works in which the apparent passion(sprezzatura) is directed toward an ultimate goal, the "passion" to be created in the viewer, the ultimate beneficiary of Bernini's efforts and those of his papal patrons. As a matter of personal preference I regret that the authors have neglected the social and political aspects of Bernini's enterprise in favor of a magisterial stylistic investigation. No matter: it's all there, in nuce.

An intense, exciting, in-depth study of Bernini's work in clay.

This analysis of Bernini's methods of working in clay has literally overwhelmed me with its attention to in-depth detail and the subtle conclusions it has put forward. The photographs of the minutest detail of a sculpture are exciting for this sculptor to behold. The ability to peer inside or underneath one of Bernini's sculptures is truly fascinating for it beckons one to travel along with Bernini on his creative journey.
I strongly recommend this book as an exciting way to understand the mind and creative methods of one of the greatest sculptors of all time!

Fingerprints of a master

This is a superb book, an argument for the continued existence of hard copies in addtion to e-books with all their useful attributes. It is a beautiful artefact, presenting outstanding photographs coupled with insightful text from a variety of experts. The subject is a specialist angle on the work of Gianlorenzo Bernini, supreme maestro of the Italian Baroque. For around two centuries his work was out of fashion. Charles Dickens, for example, when visiting Rome, considered the angels on the Ponte Sant'Angelo to be hideous - in line with the taste of his contemporaries he disliked the swirling shapes and dramatic poses so expressive of emotion. However, art criticism has once more come to appreciate the extraordinary works of this prolific genius. Many books on his oeuvre have been published. What makes this one exceptional, is that it focuses not on Bernini's marble sculpture as such,but on the terracotta models he made in his workshop, where a large team of assistants helped him create the staggering output of artworks he produced in his lifetime. The Metropolitan Museum in New York presented an exhibition of the artist's models entitled: "Bernini: Sculpting in Clay," October 2012 to Jan 2013, which brought together 55 of the existing clay models from various museums. They range from small bozetti to larger modello piccolos and the occasional modello grande (life-size). A range of essays from Bernini experts provides commentary on and analysis of these models, relating them to questions and theories about the completed works, fountains, chapels and sculptures, for which they represent the artist's initial conception and more detailed vision for his stupendous works. Some still bear the imprint of the maestro's fingers as he modelled in the plastic material of clay his vision that had to be realised in marble. A must-have for Bernini lovers and students.

My favorite in the series!!

I think this book is probably my favorite of the series. I had wanted to find out what happened to Lynet. I like reading books like this in a series where a more minor character from previous books gets his or her own story. Unlike many romance novels where there is a big misunderstanding the characters don't resolve with a ten minute conversation and instead misunderstand each other throughout much of the novel, the main conflict here is not a misunderstanding. I'm glad, because I think the big misunderstanding conflict is way overdone and also aggravating for the reader. This novel also has a couple of sad parts, but does end on a happy/melancholy note. I really enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to the next one in the series. (One thing to note in the book is that there are a dozen or so times an apostrophe is used when a word is meant to be plural.)

Good Medieval Story

This story takes place six years after the first book, and little sister is all grown up and ready to be married. Of course in medieval times, a husband is picked for you, according to social status. If you liked the first book in this series, you will like this second book also.

A Knight's Tale!

This was my second full length novel from Sherry Ewing! Having just read "If My Heart Could See You", I was very excited to read more about the characters of Berwyck Castle.
Lynet, now a young woman of 20-something, has waited six years for the knight she loves to return to Berwyck. Her brother-in-law, The Devil's Dragon, has grown tired of her rejecting potential suitors and decides to take matters into his own hands. A tournament has been declared to win the fair maiden's hand, as well as her substantial dowry.
Ian, the gallant knight Lynet has waited for, has spent the last six years doing God only knows what... We find him in a tavern with two buxom wenches on his lap. Suddenly he receives the news that his brother, the Laird of Clan McGillivray has been killed in an ambush and Ian is next in line to inherit. But there is a hitch (pardon the pun). In order to inherit he must choose a bride. It is then that he turns his thoughts to the fair young girl he left behind at Berwyck. When he returns to the castle, his arrival is not met with the fanfare and welcome he expects as he learns what he must do in order to claim his maiden fair.

Sherry Ewing has brought us another page turning story with all the charm and endurance of her debut novel. A Knight To Call My Own is well written, researched and masterfully told with intriguing and unforgettable characters. I loved Ian and Lynet's story! I'm quickly becoming a fan of both medieval romance and Sherry Ewing!
